Police Department / Animal Control Assistant – Part-time position

The City of Dunn is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Animal Control Assistant. The purpose of the assistant position is to support the Animal Control Officer and Animal Control Director by maintaining the animal shelter and take care of the animals housed there. This employee will work on-site to clean and disinfect cages, kennels, and feed animals. Employees must be comfortable handling (non-aggressive) animals, cleaning animal waste, general cleaning (dishes, laundry, sweeping, mopping, taking out trash), and properly feeding animals in our care. This job entails bending, lifting, pulling/pushing, squatting and other physical movements.

  • Minimum Requirements
    Minimum requirements: · Possession of a valid NC Class C Driver License. · Ability to deal tactfully with the public. · Must be able to do heavy lifting. Background check and drug screening shall be completed before hiring.
  • Starting Salary Range
    Beginning pay: $13.56 per hour.

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
