Public Utilities / Distribution and Collections Systems Supervisor

The City of Dunn is seeking a professional, resourceful leader with strong communication skills to supervise the City’s Water and Sewer Division. This individual performs technical and administrative work associated with the repair, replacement, and construction of City owned water and sewer infrastructure that is performed under general supervision and is reviewed for conformance to established specifications and standards, productivity of the unit and general community acceptance. The employee also plans and supervises the backflow/cross-connection program and FOG program. The individual shall have the ability to plan work projects based on service extensions, maintenance and emergency need, coordinate work with property owner(s), assign crews to projects, inspect work, and answer and resolve public complaints. Requests and acquires the necessary resources for projects and is responsible for crew efficiency, quality and safety. The employee is subject to working in inside and outside environments and around work hazards such as loud noises, confined spaces, exposure to chemicals, odors, and fumes. Work is also subject to OSHA Standards for Bloodborne Pathogens and involves emergency call-back service. Serves as the operator in responsible charge for the distribution system, collection system, and backflow/cross-connection program. Must have ability to supervise subordinate employees, interpret and prepare complex, detailed records and reports, maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, contractors, and the general public.

  • Minimum Requirements
    Requires an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Science or related area and supervisory experience in water distribution and/or sewer collection system maintenance and construction; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a Grade II Collections, A-Distribution, and Backflow/Cross-Connection ORC Certifications are required. Must possess a valid NC Driver License (Class B CDL).

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
