Public Utilities / Utility Maintenance Mechanic

The City of Dunn is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Utility Maintenance Mechanic. This individual is engaged in the construction, maintenance, and/or repair of water and sewer lines. Work involves making water and sewer taps; installing hydrants, meters, and valves; operating a sewer truck to unclog sewer stoppages, CCTV inspection of sewer lines and making repairs to the water and sewer system. Employees are subject to working in both indoor and outdoor environments, to extreme hot and cold weather, and to various hazards such as loud noises, electrical current, odors, chemicals, fumes, gases, etc. Employees participate on an on-call rotation and are subject to be called back for emergencies outside of normal business hours. Work is performed under regular supervision and evaluated through observation and inspection for adherence to instructions and standard trade and safety practices.   • Minimum Requirements
    Possess or capable of obtaining a NC CDL (Class B).

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
