Public Utilities / Utility Inspector
The City of Dunn is seeking a qualified individual with strong communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully with contractors, property owners, and the general public. This position will perform construction observation work including technical and administrative work for the Utilities Department to ensure the City’s standards for quality of construction are met. This individual will be responsible for observing new utility construction and monitoring compliance with the City’s design standards; ensures contractors are compliant with City regulations and specifications when installing utilities; addresses field issues and interpretation of City design standards; participates in plan reviews for new construction and participates in pre-development and pre-construction meetings; performs initial and final walk through on projects to develop a punch list of corrective actions; works with Contractors to schedule shut downs and/or tapping existing system infrastructure; performs other related duties as required; supports and reports to the Assistant Utilities Director. Must have thorough knowledge of the operation, maintenance, capabilities and limitation of the equipment used in the area of assignment; of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation and maintenance of underground utilities; and of traffic laws regulations along with the ability to perform difficult and complex operational duties related to the construction of water and sewer utilities; to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to make simple records of work activity.

- Minimum Requirements
A qualified candidate will possess a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, operation, and repair and/or construction of water and sewer utilities, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of construction aspects of storm-water and roads are highly preferred. Must possess a valid NC Driver License, a current NC C-Distribution Certification and a NC Collections I Certification, or must attain within one year of employment. - Benefits Include
