Public Works / Facilities Maintenance Assistant

The City of Dunn Public Works Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Facilities Maintenance Assistant. This individual performs variety of responsible semi-skilled tasks in the construction and maintenance of City building and facilities under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Specialist. Responsibilities include, performing repairs, renovations, installations, construction and preventative maintenance of mechanical, plumbing and structural maintenance issues within the City facilities. Work subjects the employee to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including moving mechanical parts, noise, vibrations, working on ladders, dusts, fumes, oils, gases and mists. The physical duties of the job include bending, stooping, standing, walking, kneeling, climbing ladders, pushing, pulling, reaching and lifting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Minimum Requirements
    Candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid North Carolina Driver License., and considerable experience in semi-skilled trades work such as plumbing and carpentry work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
