Finance Department / Accounting Assistant - Temporary

The City of Dunn is currently accepting applications for the temporary position of Accounting Assistant. The position requires a professional individual to perform duties of an accounting nature in accounts payable, purchase orders, grants, and can operate all parts of the financial software program as well as perform collection and clerical duties in the Finance Department. Work involves applying established accounting or administrative procedures, principles of bookkeeping and basic fund accounting or other financial procedures including cashiering, collections and complaint resolution; assisting customers in person, by phone and by mail. Candidate must have working knowledge of cash receipting and balancing in an automated environment; must be able to perform mathematical computations and be able to enter data with speed and accuracy. Work assignments are performed in accordance within established procedures with unusual situations being referred to the supervisor for guidance.

  • Minimum Requirements
    Graduation from a community college with a two year associate degree in Accounting or Business and some experience in an automated fiscal or accounting environment, preferably in the public sector; OR graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work in bookkeeping/accounting and considerable experience in an automated fiscal environment, preferably in the public sector; OR an equivalent of education and experience.

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
