Public Works / Equipment Operator I, II or III

The City of Dunn is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Equipment Operator at the Public Works Department. Employee performs functions that require a high level of skill and confidence operating heavy machinery and equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drain system, and related infrastructure. Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, street sweeper, grapple truck, leaf vacuum truck, tandem dump truck, tractors, etc. When not operating equipment, performs work with crews to install, repair, replace, or maintain sections of streets, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drains, potholes, utility cuts, etc. This position could be upgraded to Equipment Operator II or III depending on knowledge and experience of other heavy equipment including motor grader and/or paver. Inspects assigned vehicle/equipment and performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance.

  • Minimum Requirements
    Graduation from high school and related experience operating heavy equipment required. Must possess a valid class B commercial (CDL) North Carolina driver license or valid class A commercial (CDL) North Carolina driver license, if applying for a EO III position.

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
