Planning & Zoning / Building Inspector

The City of Dunn is seeking a qualified individual with strong communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully with design professionals and the general public. This position must have experience reading and interpreting construction plans while inspecting construction in progress to enforce State Codes including all five (5) trade areas at the Level II certification level. Duties include plan review and inspections in the appropriate certification category, investigating complaint situations, and handling communications and appropriate legal action when necessary. Enforces construction codes, zoning ordinances, and local codes of the City of Dunn; makes site visits and gathers data. Work is performed under the Chief Building Inspector.

  • Minimum Requirements
    Must possess a valid NC Driver License.
  • Preference Given For
    A preferred candidate will possess a minimum of five (5) Standard Level II certifications with considerable knowledge in HVAC, Plumbing, Building, Electrical, and Fire trades.

    Salary DOQ.

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
