Public Works / Equipment Operator III - Public Works

The City of Dunn is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Equipment Operator III. Employee performs functions that require a high level of skill and confidence operating heavy machinery and equipment in the maintenance, repair, and repaving of streets, sidewalks, storm drain system, and related infrastructure. Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as small asphalt paver, motor grader, backhoe, front end loader, street sweeper, grapple truck, leaf vacuum truck, tandem dump truck, etc. When not operating equipment, performs work with crews including street repair and landscaping maintenance. Knowledge of use of transit preferred. Inspects assigned vehicle/equipment and performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance. Must serve on call and respond to emergency situations (including nights, weekends and holidays).

  • Minimum Requirements
    Graduation from high school and experience operating heavy equipment required. Must possess a valid class B commercial (CDL) NC Driver License.

    Starting salary dependent on qualifications.

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
